When/Where can i surf
at nahant beach?

If you're renting a surfboard and plan on surfing at Nahant Beach, it's best to come before 9 am or after 4 pm in the summer, especially on the weekends to secure parking in the zone where surfing is permitted.

Marker 12 is half-way down the beach parking lot and is the first marker of the zone where surfing is permitted all day. Before this marker, surfing is prohibited while lifeguards are on duty (9am-4pm).
Can I surf right outside of the shop?

You can only surf close to the shop before 9 am or after 4 pm in the summer (after the lifeguards leave)

surfing in lifeguard zones while lifeguards are on duty is prohibited at MA state beaches during the summer

Parking at Nahant Beach

Daily parking fees at Nahant Beach, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m (May 14 - October 31)

Parking lot entrance closes at 8 pm, but you are allowed to park until midnight.

If I rent a surfboard, can I park at the surf shop while I surf?

No. The spots in front of the shop are reserved for those currently shopping only. If you want to surf, you must get a spot in the beach parking lot, and we provide roof racks/straps for those who want to drive to the surf zone.


How can I rent a board

Stop by the shop to rent a board!

you must be 18+ to rent

please bring 2 matching forms of ID (i.e. a credit card and a driver's license)

once you get to the shop, you will fill out a waiver and we will get you set up!

What hours can I rent?

our last rental goes out one hour before closing (7 pm), and must be returned by 8 pm.

we don't offer 24 hour rentals on sundays because the shop is closed mondays.
Where can I park while I rent?

Can I reserve/ prebook a board?

no. boards are available on a first come first serve basis, however, we typically have enough boards to meet demand.
Can you hold my belongings while I surf my rental board?

no. due to limited space in the shop, we are unable to be responsible for any belongings. Please plan accordingly and leave valuables at home! lock what you don't need in your car, or bring a water bag with you.
Can I try on my rental wetsuit in the shop?
-
yes! we have changing rooms where you can try on your rental wetsuit for size, but please remove your wet wetsuit before coming back into the shop!
How do I return my rental?
-
please remove your used wetsuit before returning to the shop. you must check in with the front desk before returning your rental. Rental equipment can be returned at our back gate.

How to stay safe while surfing

Always make sure the leash is tethered to your board AND to your ankle

Always jump off to the side or back of the board, never in front.

Cover your head when you jump off the board

Avoid swimmers- maintain at least a 20 ft distance horizontally between swimmers and other surfers

Do not surf behind swimmers

Ocean house surf DOES NOT have customer restrooms. However, there are many nearby public restrooms:

Porta Potties are located across the street from the shop at the Nahant Beach parking entrance.

Modern amenities are located at the bath house half way down Nahant Beach

the Nahant Beach bathhouse also has showers and changing rooms.
